Lessons in obedience

Like many bloggers do, I’ve neglected my blog. This despite a promise to myself and both of my loyal fans that I would be blogging on a regular basis. Life, as it so often does, kind of got in the way. My mom, after battling emphysema for years, passed away in August. Putting that out there in a blog post is already hard, so I won’t go into too much detail here. I feel blessed to have had the time I did with her. I feel that, especially last year, I got closer to not just my mother, but also to my sisters. That’s what I choose to focus on. That, and all of the good memories that are popping up as we go through all the boxes, and SO many photo albums. My faith is a huge part of what keeps me positive. I’ve got a long way to go, but I believe I’m heading in the right direction.

With this being my first post of 2013, I decided that the perfect subject was photography that I did back in November – also rooted in faith. I received a call from Kim about doing some photography for a book she was writing. I had photographed Kim and Andy Bryan’s wedding in 2005, and I’ve also photographed their team, Bryan Realty Group a number of times. I’m going to paste the copy in here from the inside cover of Kim’s book. This will summarize much better than I could, and should make clear why I’m trying to tie this all together. 🙂 . The images that follow are the ones Kim selected for use in the book. The book is very near going to print and I will post a link as soon as it’s available. Congrats to Kim on what has to be a very satisfying feeling. Also, props to Shane – he was a great model.

“It was a beautiful spring day. My plan was simply to take a walk with our dog, Shane; however, God had a better plan for the day. He used that walk to give me a powerful illustration about love, obedience, and surrender.

As Shane’s master, I am continually training him to obey me. I now see where God, my Master, is tirelessly training me to obey Him and to surrender to His plan for my life. The foundation of the training is the same in both cases―it is love.

Through God’s revelation, I have finally understood and accepted these powerful truths:

God is love.

To love God is to obey God.

True love = true obedience.

Love is what makes true surrender possible.

Obedience and surrender lead to peace and joy.

Every one of us is offered the opportunity to walk with God at His perfect pace in perfect peace.”

There it is. Now, please enjoy the images…
